2. How much time will I have to commit to HOSA?

Training sessions are usually one hour per week, although students are encouraged to review content on their own time. While HOSA is more involved than other clubs, the knowledge, skills, and academic advice you gain are directly applicable to most life sciences courses.

4. What sets this club apart from other pre-health clubs?

Unlike other healthcare clubs, HOSA UTSG provides an interactive environment where members can network with peers and mentors on a weekly basis (training sessions). Through training for team events, members also develop many important soft skills such as teamwork and communication. Finally, our competitive events and campus-level events span a diverse range of healthcare fields, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

5. What happens at the conferences?

At the FLC and SLC, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they’ve acquired from training by competing in events. There will also be many opportunities for networking as well as workshops and seminars to attend. ILC will be similar but on a much larger scale, we are anticipating more than 10,000 competitors at the 2021 ILC!

6. I don't want to compete, can I still join?

Absolutely! While we strongly encourage members to compete at the conferences, many students have reaped benefits from regularly attending weekly training sessions and participating in HOSA UTSG’s academic and social events.

7. What are these competitive events?

HOSA is similar to the DECA of healthcare: students prepare for written tests, technical assessments, and interactive competitions (e.g. debates, quiz bowls) against students from other Canadian universities. There are both individual and team events. Check out the competitive events section and the official event guidelines for each event for more information.

8. What are some campus-level events you have planned for the 2023-24?

We will be keeping the successful and popular Research Opportunities Symposium and MCAT Strategy Seminar from last year. We plan to hold more socials and return to in person events to give everyone a better experience.

9. I was a member last year, what's new?

We’re offering training for a new competitive event (Medical Math). We are also increasing our online engagement with an active Instagram and social media giveaways.
